This project utilized AutoCAD, Photoshop, & Hand Rendering

Project Statement

Micheal Herzog is the Israeli Ambassador to the United States of America. He and his wife Shirin, a corporate lawyer, recently purchased a 3- million-dollar property in Bethesda, Maryland outside of Washington D.C with approximately 5,000 square feet. The couple has 2 adult children who visit often with their spouses and children. The couple has 4 grandchildren and would like a bunkroom to house them. Micheal and Shirin both enjoy cooking, entertaining, celebrating Jewish holidays and rituals, and watching movies. They requested that the home include high-end furniture, finishes, appliances, and accessories that suit their lifestyle, along with aging-inplace components for the future. The family wants to express their Jewish culture within their home, specifically with things like storage for candles, items for Seder dinners, and a Kosher kitchen, so I will be incorporating design elements from Israel into the home. This will help to make it feel closer to Israel, the family’s home country, and help them show their individuality.

Concept Statement

Focusing on the idea of keeping the space high-end and suitable for the clients and bringing in elements from Israel. Imagine walking down the streets of Israel, the streets are unpaved and rocky stones, people are walking and talking along the streets. In older areas, the homes are made of a yellowy cream colored stone, called Jerusalem stone, which makes each home slightly different. The city has industrialized over time creating a more sleek and modern metropolitan feeling depending on where you are in the city. When entering a home, it is very subtle color choices like whites and creams, arches, and spiral staircases are common, giving the space character. But what really brings the space to life is the accent colors, art, unique materials, and textures, and commonly used religious artifacts and symbols that personalize and reflect the lifestyle and values of Israel. The mountains and greenery in the environment bring life to the city. This design is guided by the modern aspect of the city, with new and higher-end materials while also incorporating accents of the traditional colors, the use of stone, and the patterns and textures that are all seen throughout the city.
